Introduction to Family Transit in Singapore
Travelling in Singapore with children is not difficult or uncomfortable. Follow this guide to make your transit safe, fun, and trouble-free, beginning with what family members need to bring along and then how to move around smoothly using public transport.
Make the MRT Your Main Transport Option
A hotel like Mercure ICON Singapore City Centre can provide families with a convenient base for exploring Singapore by public transport, particularly when attractions and MRT stations are within easy reach. The MRT is one of the most practical ways to travel around the city with children, offering frequent services and connections to many major attractions. Families should avoid peak commuting periods where possible, as crowded trains can be less comfortable when travelling with young children.
Combine MRT Journeys with Singapore’s Buses
City View Hotel Singapore can also be a practical starting point for families planning days around Singapore’s extensive public transport network. Buses complement the MRT by reaching destinations that may not be located directly beside train stations, allowing families to combine both options during a single journey. Checking routes before leaving your accommodation can help reduce unnecessary walking and make travel easier with younger children.
Plan Comfortable Walking Routes Between Stops
It can be fun walking around Singapore for families if the sights/points of interest are close to each other. Still, if planning to walk with children, parents should be aware of their energy levels and to plan shorter routes with frequent stops mainly under the hot and humid weather of Singapore. Good walking shoes, drinking water and sun protection can make the journey from MRT stations and bus stops to attractions more enjoyable.
Keep Taxis and Ride-Hailing Services as a Backup
Taxi and ride-hailing services should be the preferred transportation for children during times of tiredness or rainy weather, or when the family is laden with luggage after a long day of sightseeing. They are also likely to be used as a convenient alternative when, for instance, an attraction is less accessible by public transportation or when travelling with small children.
