An adventure in its own right, the Wheel of Brisbane offers fun-filled rides to all its visitors. The Brisbane Wheel has been in operation since 2008 while offering an amazing perspective of Brisbane city. This wheel which is categorized as a Ferris wheel was erected in 2008 as part of both the 20th anniversary of World Expo 88 and the 150th anniversary of Queensland.
Though being a considerably new addition, the Brisbane Wheel is a must-see for tourists. The wheel stands at a height of 60 metres offering great views across Brisbane at all points of the ride. It is also conveniently located in the heart of South Bank Parklands where some of the more family-friendly Brisbane holiday apartments such as the well placed Oaks Lexicon Apartments can be found. The South Bank Parklands borders the Brisbane River which was made the official site for the World Expo 88.
The wheel is made up of a total of 42 capsules designed to comfortably accommodate visitors. Each capsule is air-conditioned and can hold up to 6 people in one go. Couples can get an amazing view of the Brisbane sunset and after dark, the city lights up in a wonderful aura displaying itself for those looking from above. What’s even more exciting is the magical stop at the top when on board a capsule; the incomparable feeling of being on top of the world engulfs each visitor. The wheel is open from Sunday to Thursday from 9:00am to 10:00pm and from Friday to Saturday from 9:00am to 11:00pm. Tickets for visitors can be purchased easily at the South Bank Visitor Centre and are priced at a mere $18 dollars for adults and $12.5 dollars for children between 4-12 years of age. Visitors can also request for private gondola rides which are a favourite among couples and come at a slightly higher rate of $95 dollars.
Those who take a ride on the wheel can expect to be both fascinated and excited. It is a simply wonderful 30 minute ride, where one can relax, test one’s photography skills, reflect or even enjoy the company of family and friends at greater heights. The wheel is a new platform for entertainment!
