It’s the oldest square in Dalian
Zhongshan Square was built by the Russians back in 1899. But it has had had name changes at several instances ever since then.
Change of names
When it was first built, it was called the ‘Nicholas Square’. But then the Japanese colonization happened, and the name changed to ‘Big Plaza’. It was only after the liberation in 1945 that it was named ‘Zhongshan’.
Its shape and the features
Yes, it’s a square but it takes a round shape! The diameter of this circle is approximately 200 meters. There are 36 acoustic stands around this, making it one of the best musical squares in the world.
It’s a people’s place
People come here at dawn and dusk to enjoy their lives. They play Chinese chess with their friends and enjoy shadow boxing.
