Beautiful and quiet, Pasikuda is a coastal town on the east coast of Sri Lanka. Calm waters with incredible blue hues and soft, sandy beaches are what the town is known for. The popular beach spots are must-visits, of course, but there are hidden gems promising unique experiences. If you want to do something more than just hang around in the busy tourist areas, then this guide is for you.
Batticaloa Lagoon
Are you a nature lover? Then you’ll love Batticaloa Lagoon, which is only a short drive from Pasikuda. Take a boat ride on the calm waters and see birds, mangroves, and fishermen at work. For the best experience, visit early in the morning. If you visit in the evening, however, you might be able to experience the singing fish phenomenon.
Whale Watching in Trincomalee
A bit north of Pasikuda, Trincomalee is one of the best places in Sri Lanka for whale watching. From May to October, you might see blue whales and dolphins swimming close to the shore. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience you shouldn’t miss. How do you go about arranging the activity, though? Speak to your resort. Amethyst Resort, which is a four-star Passikudah hotel, offers the whale watching experience.
Passikudah Bay
Much quieter than other places, Passikudah Bay is ideal for swimming and relaxing. The water is warm, shallow, and calm – even kids can swim here. Bring a picnic, enjoy the sunshine, or go snorkelling to see the spectacular marine life.
Sigiriya Rock Fortress

It’s a few hours from Pasikuda, but a visit is a must if you have the time – some hotels offer trips to Sigiriya for their guests. Sigiriya Rock Fortress is an ancient site with an intriguing tale, and the summit offers a stunning panorama of the area.
