Planning a Visit
Do keep in mind this island is in fact, around 150 miles from Abu Dhabi; resorts (three in total) can be found on Sir Bani Yas itself making it ideal for a romantic or family escape. The island can be reached directly by plane or boat or via car to Jebel Dhanna and then a boat or water taxi from there.
Arabian Wildlife Park
The star attraction here is the Arabian Wildlife Park home to thousands of free-roaming animals; these include the endangered Arabian oryx, sand gazelles, northern cheetahs, reticulated giraffes, flamingos and ostriches. Properties the likes of Desert Islands Resort & Spa by Anantara do offer wildlife drives, nature walks and horse rides that let you get up close to some of these creatures.
Exciting Escapades
There are plenty more thrilling activities too; head off on a wadi walk amidst imposing dunes, pedal your way on a mountain bike along off-road trails and ride across the dunes on an Arabian stallion. You can even tour historic archaeological sites including an ancient Nestorian Christian monastery.
