While much of Dubai is designed around luxury cars, the city is also marked with several walkable neighbourhoods and promenades. So, ditch the private cab and put on your best pair of sneakers – here’s your pedestrian-friendly guide to exploring Dubai.
Downtown Dubai
Not far from most city serviced hotel apartments in Dubai, the Downtown area offers gorgeous walking spaces and metropolitan sights. Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, a lengthy 3.5km walking circuit, is the heart of the town for pedestrians. Or, if you’re looking to escape the heat, the Metro Link Bridge, an indoor walkway to the Dubai Mall, is a great option.
Dubai Water Canal
Located across the water from DAMAC Maison Aykon City Hotel Apartments, the Canal Walk is popular for sunset walks. This promenade opens up to gorgeous views of the waterway and city skyline, making it a must for peaceful, afternoon strolls.
Dubai Marina, JBR, Bluewaters
This loop is one of the most walkable areas in the city. Begin your journey at Marina Mall, and take the Marina Walk, a waterfront promenade, to JBR. From JBR, cross the Bluewaters Bridge to reach Al Ain island.
Old Dubai
For a journey back in time, Dubai’s historic districts offer a glimpse at the city’s past and rich Emirati heritage. Wander through narrow lanes lined with restored buildings and windtowers, or stroll down creekside promenades in Al Seef. Be sure to stop at Al Fahidi’s traditional souks for a shopping experience that’s a little different to the luxury malls.
Alsekral Avenue & Dubai Design District
Art enthusiasts will love Alsekral Avenue and the Dubai Design District. Alsekral Avenue is packed with charming boutiques, galleries, and cafes, while the Design District is a creative quarter by the water, with event spaces and an urban park.
