Sri Lanka is blessed with three Marine National Parks, namely the one in Hikkaduwa, the Pigeon Island Marine Park, and the Adam’s Bridge Marine National Park. This is about the most famous out of them, the Pigeon Island National Park.
Where is it?
It’s located just 1km away from Nilaveli town. It’s easily accessible from all the resorts in Trincomalee the likes of Trinco Blu by Cinnamon.
The best time to schedule your visit
Head to the Pigeon Island National Park in June. The Nilaveli Beach is also at its best during this time as it’s all about bright, shiny weather.
The beach
The park has two islands namely the small one and the large pigeon island. The small pigeon island has rocky landscapes around it and is home to over 300 coral reef fish. Make sure you wear slippers when you get to the beach.
Other activities to do
If you are interested in exploring underwater life, you can either choose to snorkel or dive. Swimming, fishing, and speed boating are some other activities you can try out.
You may then head to the Koneswaram Temple located very close by.
