Bangkok’s energy is nonstop, but sometimes you just need a breather. Good news: there are some really peaceful spots just outside the city that show off a different side of Thailand.
Bang Krachao
Just across the Chao Phraya River, Bang Krachao feels separate from the city. You can rent a bike and ride through quiet, leafy paths and low-key neighbourhoods. The floating market is small but worth a look. If you want something calmer than the city scene, this is one of the best things to do in Bangkok.
Nakhon Pathom
Head west and you’ll reach Nakhon Pathom, home to Phra Pathom Chedi, the tallest stupa in Thailand. The area isn’t busy, and the history is impressive. Not far off, there’s Wat Samphran, known for its big pink tower with a dragon sculpture. There aren’t many crowds, and it’s a good place to get a feel for local culture.
Ko Kret
Take a boat north and you’ll find Ko Kret, an island known for Mon pottery. There are small studios where you can watch pottery being made, and you might even want to take something home. The weekend market is simple, with local snacks and sweets. Consider staying at Maitria Residence Rama 9 Bangkok; it’s easy to get transport for these trips.

Erawan Museum & Ancient City
If you’re looking for something different, head to Samut Prakan. The Erawan Museum stands out thanks to its huge three-headed elephant statue. Nearby, Ancient City (Muang Boran) is an open-air museum with scaled-down versions of Thailand’s historic sites. You can walk through different eras of Thai history in just a few hours.
