Key Attractions
There are several local temples worth seeing including the impressive 14th century Wat Chedi Luang with its high brick chedi and the nearby Wat Phrathat Chom Kiti on a forested hill offering stunning summit views. Chiang Saen Lake
Amongst the best things to do in Chiang Saen is to visit the lake which is about 5 km from the town. It features a wetland and is an ideal place to enjoy birdwatching too; herons, ducks, kingfishers, raptors and storks can be spotted, while waders and waterfowl migrate here from November to February.
Markets & Food
Make time to explore some local markets; there is a daily market to visit, while on the weekends, a walking street market is held on Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Don’t miss a chance to walk along the riverside promenade where you will find vendors offering fish dishes, BBQ chicken and pork, sticky rice and more.
