With picturesque surroundings featuring rolling tea bushes and shimmering waterfalls, the Hill Country of Sri Lanka offers plenty of adventures for intrepid visitors. Its cooler temperatures make it conducive for several activities during the day. Be sure to carry these five essentials to make your trip a hassle-free one.
01. Clothing Essentials
The higher altitude makes this region special. The temperature ranges between a pleasant 15 to 25 degrees Celsius in January and most parts of the year in the Hill Country region of Sri Lanka. This pleasant weather means light dresses, skirts, pants, and shorts, along with T-shirts and cropped tops, are ideal for the trip, as is often done by guests using many a luxury resort in Sri Lanka.
It is not unusual for such guests to dress up for the evening after a full day of adventure and excursions to relax and make the most of the evening. Hence, pack a few evening dresses to add glamour and elegance to warm and cosy dinner dates at luxury resorts like 98 Acres Resort and Spa, which offers enchanting views as you wine and dine with your significant other, your family, or a group of friends.

02. Layers for chilly nights
As the temperature ranges about 10 degrees Celsius, between 15 to 25, along with the light clothing you have chosen, pack some layers that you can easily carry about in your tote bag or handbag, and use as the need arises while you are on the go. These can be a light cardigan, several shawls in a mix of colours to mix and match with the clothes you have chosen for the trip.
03. Clothing for religious places
In between the adventurous activities, you are bound to visit some religious places in the Hill Country. Be mindful of being modestly clad as you visit these places. It is best to carry either white or light-toned pants, a long dress, or a long skirt for this occasion. Even males must be clad in trousers. It is important to have your upper arms covered as well as your knees when entering religious places.
Footwear and hats or caps must be removed when entering religious sites. It is best to observe what locals do and follow them when you enter temples, churches, and mosques.
04. Footwear and Sun & Rain Protection
You are most likely to walk on uneven paths at times on adventure trips, such as hiking, chasing waterfalls, and even on tea factory visits. Therefore, hiking trainers are a must. In addition, a pair of evening shoes, slip-on sandals for visiting religious places, is best.
Pack sun hats and caps as required, sunglasses, compact umbrellas in case of monsoon showers, insect repellent, and adequate sunscreen to cover your stay.
05. Swimwear and accessories
You are most likely to use the swimming pool at the chosen accommodation to relax and cool off. Swimsuits are ok by the poolside; however, packing a wraparound skirt or a large shawl is best to wear over the swimsuit if you intend to use the bar after a dip in the pool.
To carry these items to the pool and take along required accessories on excursions, a day bag is a useful item to be packed along with all other essentials.
