An Intro to Bangkok’s Riverside
The Chao Phraya River starts in the Nakhon Sawan Province and then runs south through Bangkok before flowing into the Gulf of Thailand. This river is arguably the most important one in Thailand with regards to transportation and is regularly used by river ferries, buses and water taxis. The areas flanking the river are quite popular spots, and there are plenty of things to do around Bangkok within close proximity to the Chao Phraya.
Visit the Wat Arun
The dazzling Temple of Dawn presents a beautiful picture indeed, as it looms up over the waters of the Chao Praya. To make the most of the experience, make sure to get a glimpse of it at night when it’s illuminated. The temple’s grandeur is enhanced against the consuming darkness of the obsidian sky.
Tour the Grand Palace
A trip to Bangkok isn’t complete without a tour of the palace and its grounds. Although the King doesn’t live there now, the palace was the principal base of Thai royalty for a century and a half. You can find quite a few hotels by the river such as AVANI Riverside Bangkok Hotel, within easy reach of the Grand Palace.
Drop by the Wat Pho
This is the oldest temple in the capital. Don’t recognise it by its name? It also goes by the name of ‘Temple of the Reclining Buddha’. The main attraction inside the temple grounds is the massive, 46-metre-long Buddha statue that’s covered in gold.
