China is the place for a tourist to immerse himself in its rich heritage. Owing to the many festivals and cultural events that the country has to offer, it is on the top of any discerning traveller’s list of places to visit. While there for one festival or the other, there is a place that should not be missed. That is the West Lake in China’s Hangzhou area. Literally translating to ‘West Lake’, this freshwater Chinese lake has a great historic past. Located in the eastern part of China, this lake has many temples, pagodas, artificial islands and also beautiful gardens in between it. Now that sounds interesting, doesn’t it?
The gardens of this lake are so beautiful that are said to have “influenced garden design in the rest of China as well as Japan and Korea over the centuries”. The West Lake Hangzhou is such a beautiful place to visit and it is reputed to have influenced a great number of painters and poets over the years. The area was also made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011 and is surrounded on three sides by mountains! With a depth of three meters, the West Lake also has five other areas to it. Divided by the Bai, Su, Gu Shan, and Yanggong Causeways, there are five other smaller lakes, the Outer West Lake, West Inner Lake, Little South Lake, North Inner Lake and the Yue Lake. Near the Outer West Lake, you will find the largest, most beautiful natural island on the lake.
There are also a lot of ancient buildings together with caves that surround the place. To stay in China is really an experience you must not miss out on. Look for a Wuxi hotel in the region. Finding a hotel in Wuxi is relatively easy but a great choice of a place to stay is the Millennium Wuxi. The West Lake has passed through the hands of the Sui Dynasty who engineered the project, the Tang Dynasty and many others who were instrumental in making the lake into what it is today. Being one of China’s more significant artistic locations, this place is held in high regard in Chinese society. If you love nature, this is a great place to be at and also to see the squirrels skittering around the beautiful flora and fauna.
