A little bit of History

During the colonial era, Galle was the first capital of the Dutch. It was a fortified city which provided a safe shelter for the colonizers and offered protection from the rebels of the kingdoms of Sri Lankan rulers.

Architecture

Since the colonizers were far from their homes they wanted Galle to be a city as close to their homeland in terms of architecture and city structure. Most of the building they built during their rule still exists; most of them have stood strong through the sands of time. The beauty of these buildings is one of the reasons that many tourists fall in love with this city.
